A Plan, Elevation and Section of a Building based on the fact that as designers of the built environment we have agreed to communicate through drawings and by using the principles of descriptive geometry and orthographic projections, let’s look at an example of a set of drawings and then a video so you can compare different ways of describing space, form, concepts and events that go beyond mere representation.
Below are four drawings that represent the formal and spatial characteristics of the Pantheon, a building from ancient Rome. The top two drawings are elevations — the left is a front elevation of the entry and on the right is a side elevation. The entry portico is on the left hand side of this second elevation. On the bottom is a section created by slicing through the building and finally a plan.
